My Mission

As District Attorney, I am resilient, responsive to the needs of the community, and determined to continually fight crime on behalf of citizens and victims of Alameda County. The District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the county and as such, must be ethical, honest, and above reproach in decision making. I have a history of being fair and impartial and I am committed to serving the people of this county.

The role of the District Attorney includes not only prosecuting crimes, but also working to make communities safe and crime-free. In addition to prosecuting offences ranging from the most serious (including murder, rape, child sexual assault, robbery and theft) to those crimes that affect our quality of life (such as loitering, vandalism and grafitti), my Office has created specialized units to handle consumer fraud, cyber crime, pollution, union worker exploitation, and identity theft. I am constantly making changes within the DA’s office to investigate and prosecute new and emerging types of crime.

I am particularly proud of the diversity of the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and will continue to hire and train the finest personnel to best serve the needs of the community. I am fiscally responsible and in these tough economic times, I will do my best to ensure programs and services continue to be available to the people of Alameda County while our rigorous prosecution of crime continues.

Alameda County has its share of crime; and Oakland is particularly challenged. These crime rates and stories should not overshadow the beauty, innovation and successes of Alameda County. Oakland is rebuilding a vibrant, exciting City with tremendous community and business support. As your District Attorney, I will continue to lead by example and work tirelessly with law enforcement and local organizations to make our communities safer. I will be relentless in the prosecution of crime, fighting for rights of victims, and to help establish safer neighborhoods for families and children.

I am an advocate of victims and will continue (and expand) my work to ensure the needs of crime victims are met with respect, dignity and grace. Building bridges with residents and businesses in Alameda County is a vital part of my role: I am accessible and openly seek ideas from citizens to solve problems, combat crime in our neighborhoods and embrace change as the needs of the community alters.

I am a District Attorney you can trust and one who will work withyou and foryou. I believe in having a strong presence in the community and will hold the members of the Alameda County District Attorney's Office and others in the criminal justice system to the highest standards. The Office of District Attorney serves the people and I will be responsive to your needs. Together we will make our communities safer.
